I have been to the school site this afternoon to risk assess the site and surrounding roads. The site is covered in thick snow and ice, with access along Tallis Gardens very icy. I was unable to drive into the staff car park due to the thick snow.
Some pathways have already been cleared today and salt put down, but it will take a while to clear the staff car park and therefore enable staff to get into school safely.
The public pathways around the school site are very slippery with compacted snow and thick ice.
The forecast indicates light rain from early morning on Monday which should clear the snow fairly quickly, however this is not guaranteed.
Therefore in the interests of health and safety for the school community I have made the decision to open the school at 10.20am with registration at 10.30am. All children can access the school site from the main front entrance/school office off the Sullivan Road/Tallis Gardens pathway or through the Year R entrance into the Year 6 corridor.
Children are advised to wear suitable outdoor shoes/wellington boots and bring school shoes in a plastic bag, with a warm coat and gloves/scarf etc.
I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, and it is not a decision taken lightly.
Thank you in advance for your understanding, and please take care on your way into school tomorrow.
