Summer 1 Term

For the first few weeks of this term we have been enjoying learning all about Farm animals. We read lots of different stories such as ‘The Three Little Pigs, Farmer Duck and Farmyard Beat’. We also thoroughly enjoyed singing along to the Nursery Rhyme of ‘Old Macdonald had a farm!’.

Last week and this week we have moved onto our new theme of Minibeasts to conclude this term. We have read the stories ‘Mad about minibeasts, Bug School and The snail and the Whale’.

With all our learning of farm animals and minibeasts, we have been using our phonetic knowledge and skills to write a list of some of the farm animals and minibeasts that we know. We also put on our thinking caps and wrote some amazing riddles… can you guess what we are?! We are also working on our drawing skills so have drawn and labelled our own minibeasts too.

In our Maths learning we have really been focusing on our number bonds of 5 and 10.  We have been using lots of different resources to help us. We also had a look at subtraction. We learnt that subtraction means the value and the quantity of our numbers are getting smaller. We even practiced writing some subtraction number sentences. We have now looked at the mathematical symbols of +,- and =. I wonder if your Bumblebee can tell you what they mean? Now we have investigated addition and subtraction, we had lots of fun finding one more and one less using a number line to hop up for addition and down for subtraction. Because we have looked at and investigated the composition of numbers up to 20, we dove in even deeper to see what number patterns we could spot… we found lots! Odd and even numbers, doubling and are soon to be looking at sharing a number between 2 groups (division). We have also been exploring symmetry and creating our own symmetrical patterns and butterflies!

Within our day-to-day provisional activities, we have carried out a Farm Animal and Minibeast Hunt, had lots of sensory stations which we have absolutely loved! Sorting activities, recapping prior learning and new ways to implement our learning, lots of arts and crafts and something Miss Sullivan, Mrs Symonds and Miss McCluskey have noticed is, how well we have been working on working together as a team in lots of different aspects of our school life day to day.

To conclude our theme of animals and minibeast we set off on our school trip to Hillier Garden Centre, to explore all things ‘The Natural World Around Us’. We transformed into the BEST explorers, we became habitat builders, scent markers and pond dipping experts! Can your bumblebee tell you what habitat they built for what animal? All the adults are so proud of the Bumblebees for their respect and overall behaviour on the school trip. The Hillier staff said that we were one of the politest schools they have ever had and thanked us for being so amazing. Well done Bumblebees.

We cannot wait to continue our learning for Summer 2.

Spring 2 Term

Please find below pictures of what Bumblebee class have been up to this half term.

Butterflies Class

This half term, butterflies have been learning all things Spring!

First and foremost, all the adults of butterflies would like to say how proud they are of each individual butterfly on how wonderful they are and the individual progress that they have made so far this year.

At the beginning of this term, we ventured out on learning walks around the school grounds to experience what we could see, smell, hear and touch as Spring quickly sprung upon us! We thoroughly enjoyed walking through the wooded areas and comparing what we experienced on our autumnal walk last term. Whilst on our walks we enjoyed counting the flowers we could see, listening to the birds and creating finger paintings of beautiful blossom trees.

We are amazing at independently completing our tray tasks and working with an adult to work on our activities throughout the day.  We also love to put on our wellies and explore outside at lunchtime.

In maths, we have collectively been working on number recognition, counting, number bonds and spatial awareness. We have been using lots of lovely natural resources to help us with our learning from flowers, baby animal pictures, sticks, seeds and butterflies. We love the mathematicians that we are becoming!

In our English we have loved listening to and exploring our spring books, stories and songs! We have also loved mark making in the sand, paint and mud using farm animals to create lots of patterns and muddy footprints! Within our Little Wandle Phonics learning this week, our sound is K for Kite so we have been exploring all things with the K sound.

In our provision for discovering, we have loved creating and constructing different forms of sandcastle to thoroughly enjoy squishing them quickly after! We love playing in the water, using different toys to explore, nets to fish, squirters to spray lots of water (this is our favourite, especially when we get the adults wet!) Building and exploring the marble runs that we make. We are very good at shadow matching and can match lots of lovely spring pictures from welly boots to daffodils.

We have absolutely loved learning all things Spring and are extremely excited to see what Summer term has in store for us!

Spring 1 Term

At the start of this term we looked at all things cold…brrrr! We investigated Jack Frost and what it means for something to be frozen…can you remember what ice is made of? What does ice turn back into when it is melted?

We thought about what we would need to warm us up after a day out in the cold and we even wrote down a list!

We then came into school one day and had a note left by Jack Frost and we wrote all about it!

For the last few weeks, we have been enjoying learning all about some of our favourite things … SUPER HEROES! We had a special visit from a naughty character who left us the lovely story of ‘There is a Super Hero in your book’ by Tom Fletcher. We have been thinking about all the qualities a super hero has. We think that there may be some super heroes hiding in our school or at home?

We have been writing lists of our favourite superheroes with all of our Phonetic sounds that we know. This week we have written about a power we would like to have too.

For mental health week next week, we have really focused on how we feel about certain things and the impact that our decisions/choices have on the people around us. We have been reminding ourselves that it is just as important to be kind to ourselves, as it is to be kind to others!

In Maths, we have all been trying really hard with our number formation. We have also been continuing to explore the composition of numbers and have started to investigate doubling and comparing quantities. We are slowly introducing the concept of number bonds to 5 hoping to move onto number bonds of 10 next term!

We have enjoyed making our own super heroes using a variety of resources, such as masks and lolly stick heroes. We even had to help save some superheroes using our fine motor skills who were tied up by the scribbler!

We love the outdoor area and have been using our thinking caps to create lots of different things, we love to build ramps and bridges for getting across lava or water and even rollercoasters for cars!

Today we concluded our amazing theme of Superheroes and term, by dressing up as our favourite superheroes! We had a range of outfits from Hulk Smash to Lady Bird! We have taken lots of pictures which will be flying home soon! ????
We cannot wait to see what Spring 2 has in store for us! Have a lovely half-term everyone.
